Our U6 (age 5) Pre-Soccer program, designed by Peter Hattrup (former professional soccer player) is an introduction to soccer for young children; it is for the little ones who want to play soccer like their big brother or sister.
Children love to run and kick the ball, we want them moving and having fun, while learning a game that many of them will be able to enjoy well into adulthood. The
program will stress basic skills and constant involvement, as well as giving them some valuable physical fitness and a chance to start to learn sportsmanship.
The 6-week program gives the beginning player the opportunity to touch the ball and learn some soccer basics, parents have the opportunity to observe and learn along with their children. This program is ran by volunteer parent coaches - we strive for a 6 to 1 player to coach ratio. Teams are most often co-ed, but this depends on the location and number of players signed up. Players are divided into teams of six, half the practice session consists of fun games/skills the other half is a friendly scrimmage with another team.
The program is held for six consecutive Friday evenings usually beginning the 2nd Friday in September at neighborhood parks and schools throughout the LWYSA area - based on the school you indicate when you register.
As with all LWYSA recreational soccer programs, the U6 Pre-Soccer program relies on volunteers like you to coach the children. Volunteer time for this program is minimal (approximately twelve hours for the entire season) with coach training and practice plan provided. High school students can also earn community service hours as volunteer coaches. If you would like to volunteer for a coaching position please contact your clubs U6 coordinator
